What to Expect in Your First Martial Arts Class
Are you thinking about starting or getting ready to take your first martial arts class? If so, you’re probably wondering what to expect. As a beginner, it can be intimidating to start a new activity, but with the right preparation, you’ll be sure to have a positive experience.
First and foremost, be sure to wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and flex freely.
Loose-fitting athletic clothes are ideal for martial arts classes. We always recommend wearing a t-shirt and shorts, leggings or jogging pants.
It is also a good idea to either bring some water with you or pick some up at the gym in order to stay hydrated during the class.
When you arrive for first time at the gym, you can expect to meet the either the instructor taking you for your intro and class or one of the coaches who teach at the gym. It is also likely you will meet some of the other students who are in the class.
The instructor taking your intro will show you around the gym, and then jump on the mats for a one-to-one with you prior to the class. This will provide you with an overview of what the training will be like within the program you are trying out.
Once the class starts, you can expect to learn the basics of whichever martial art you are trying out. This may include warmups, stretching, and technique drills.
The instructor will demonstrate the moves, and the rest of the class will follow along.
Don’t worry if you don’t understand or execute the moves perfectly. That’s normal for a beginner!
During the class, the instructor will often provide feedback and corrections to help you learn and improve.
It’s important to stay focused and attentive, and keep an open mind. Everyone learns at their own pace, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t pick up the techniques as quickly as someone else.
At the end of the class, you can expect to be a little tired, but you should also feel a sense of accomplishment.
You’ve just taken your first steps into the world of martial arts!
So, there you have it: a brief overview of what to expect in your first martial arts class at Evade. We are sure you’re going to have a positive experience!!
